FBC LA PLATA EDUCATIONAL MINISTRY
About FBCLPEM
Support. Supervision. Success.
Who we are
FBCLPEM is the educational ministry of First Baptist Church of La Plata. We serve Maryland homeschooling families by providing mentoring and supervision of home instruction in lieu of reviews directly with the county.
Our ministry does not require membership in a co-op, a church, or any other group.
Our program options
Standard Oversight
Reviews and mentoring
For families seeking homeschool oversight and support while maintaining their own academic records.
Families keep a portfolio of their students’ work and participate in the required check-ins and portfolio reviews with their advisor.
Parents prepare their students’ transcripts and diplomas.
Record-Keeping Oversight
Reviews, academic records, and graduation planning
For families seeking oversight along with ministry-prepared official transcripts and a high-school diploma.
Families document coursework and grades, keep a portfolio, and work with their advisor to review their students’ progress.
High-school students follow the requirements of their selected diploma pathway.
Mixed-Level Families
You may keep some students in Standard Oversight while placing others in Record-Keeping Oversight. Mixed-level families pay the Record-Keeping family rate.
Annual Family Fees
Standard
$60 per family per year
Record-Keeping & Mixed Level
$90 per family per year
Members of First Baptist Church of La Plata receive a $15 annual family discount: $45 for Standard or $75 for Record-Keeping and Mixed-Level oversight.
Fees are charged per family, not per student.
What membership involves
Our advisors provide answers to questions throughout the year. Membership includes planning, documentation, and opportunities to discuss questions and concerns.
Orientation and planning
Attend the required orientation and submit the subjects you plan to teach, along with the methods or curriculum you will use.
A record of learning
Keep a portfolio of your student’s work to demonstrate the instruction provided throughout the year.
Advisor reviews
Complete the check-ins and portfolio reviews required for your oversight level. Your advisor can help you consider ways to document subjects that do not lend themselves to paperwork.
Membership availability
Availability depends upon the number of advisors volunteering with the ministry. Returning families receive priority, and additional spaces are offered as advisor capacity allows.
